Drink with Peko-chan

Would you guess who is the girl in pigtails with her tongue hanging out of the side of her mouth? Of course Peko-chan (牛奶妹)! Who else would hang out the tongue at one side of the mouth for 60 years, I wonder. As a mascot character for Fujiya Co, Peko-chan is eternally 6-year-old girl. In Hong Kong, probably you have tired the milky candy. In Japan, you can also try different desserts at its cake shops.

This year is not just the 60th anniversary of Peko-chan, also is the 100th anniversary of Fujiya Co. Therefore, this company has come up with a new soft drink by combing its Nectar peach juice and the milky milk candy for celebrating the anniversaries. I've just tired this drink. It taste as peachy yogurt drink at the bubble tea stores. If you like yogurt drink, you may like it. The peach flavor is very strong, though I find it a little bit sweet for me.

Wanna grab a pizza or a burger!

It is already December. Time flies, doesn't it? Besides house cleaning, many activities are prepared for welcoming the new year in Tokyo. Of course year-end-party would keep you very busy. The Japanese party in December called "bōnenkai" (忘年会). It literally means as its word "forget the (woes of ) the year".

The Japanese always flows drinking party for whatever reasons throughout the year. Though "bōnenkai" should regarded as the highlight of the social activity in the year! It's generally held among colleagues or friends. Izakaya(居酒屋)used to be the popular place for the party as large amount of alcohol will be consumed. Many party menus are available.

Not just izakaya provides party menu, I found a party set menu at Burger King very interesting for this holiday season as well. In this menu, a 22 inches diameter whopping is served. Wahoos! It seems everything is gonna Americanized! Even a burger will be served in a pizza form! Grab a pizza or a burger? mmm Most Japanese will answer beer anyway!

Wine Chocolate

Recently Lotte has come up with a new chocolate by combining chocolate and French red wine. This chocolate costs only 169 yen. I like liquor chocolate so much. This chocolate contains 3.3% alcohol. I definitely love it and enjoy the rich aroma of red wine spreading in my mouth.

Portable Okonomiyaki

Even though you are not familiar with Japanese sweets, you must heard of Dorayaki (銅鑼焼き)which is a Japanese cartoon character Doraemon's favorite snack. The most common filling for Japanese sweets is red bean (sweetened azuki beans). Not just Dorayaki, you can find red beans in various kinds of Japanese dessert.

Among Japanese sweets, taiyaki (たい焼き) is my favorite. Tai (鯛) means sea-bream in Japanese. That's why taiyaki is fish-shaped. Besides red beans filling, custard, chocolate or cheese are common fillings as well. Seasonal flavors are also available too, such as chestnuts in fall and ice-cream in summer.

By the way, my Japanese friend tells me there was heated debated concerned whether the Taiyaki should be eaten from the head or tail. My friend prefers starting from the head and he said if you can find the red beans at the tiny baked tail. It means the taiyaki is well made as the red beans spread evenly. For me, I do like to start with its head, though I don't mind to end with a plain baked tail. Anyway what I like taiyaki not just the various flavors I can select, also its portable size and shape.

Have you ever tried Okonomiyi(お好み焼き)? Okonomiyaki is known as a king of Japanese-style pancake. As its name indicates you can add whatever you like in okonomiyaki. If you have it at restaurant, you can cook it all by yourself on an iron table. Sometimes non-Japanese may find it difficult and not sure what to do. If you don't want to get into this trouble, I highly recommended Okonomitaiyaki(お好み鯛焼き), that is a taiyaki with the okonomiyaki filling. You may not have wide selection of ingredient, but you can enjoy it everywhere, not just in front a hot iron table!

你有沒有試過 Okonomiyi(お好み焼き)?
