"Rice cake" yaki

It supposed to be a nabe (hot pot) party, but end up I was too busy making Takoyaki. We had about 4 rounds Takoyaki with different ingredients. I really like Japanese rice cake and we attempt to make tokoyaki without Toko (octopus), instead we put diced mochi (もち, Japanese rice cake), cheese and meitaiko (明太子) into the batter. It turns out great! I'm thinking to make one with curry next time.

First we put a spoon of batter and then ingredients. Then another spoon of batter on the top.

Wait for a while and turn it around.
You can use it to play 3 in a row in order to make the dumpling into a perfect ball shape. (joke)

Ready to countdown!

I have just made toshikoshi soba (new year's eve buckwheat noodles at home. Traditionally, Japanese people eat buckwheat noodles on New Year's Eve. This custom dates back to the Edo period. Buckwheat noodles are very long and thin, which has led to the belief that if one eats these noodles they will have a long and prosperous life. I also think this is a good way to keep warm before going out for countdown!

Typhoon cooking

The weather is likely to deteriorate later on today as the typhoon No.14 is approaching Tokyo. Even though I wanna go to a Halloween Party, finally I decide to stay at home. Nothing much I can do at home, so I decide to make tempura tonight.

There are various kinds of tempura powder. But I choose the simple wheat flour, which I make something else later. For ingredients, I used shrimps, eggplants, seaweed (nori) and perilla (green shiso).

You know what, actually the word tempura comes from a Latin word "tenpora"meaning "times". This cooking method won't take time at all. Just put whatever you like into it! Easy made and fast served. Actually I should called it "typhoon cooking" especially in this typhoon night! Hopefully the typhoon No.14 will come and go fast as well as my tempura.
